Dental Exams and X-Rays
Regular Dental Exams and X-rays can identify oral diseases and problem areas within the mouth.
A detailed dental exam will be given at your first visit to Greenbank Family Dental by our team of dental professionals. At regular checkups, your dentist will cover the following:

  • Diagnostic X-ray examinations- This is a necessary step to help detect any decay, tumours, cysts, and/or bone loss. These X-rays can also help us track root and tooth positions.
  • Screening for Oral Cancer- Examining the face, lips, neck, tongue, tissue, throat and gums for traces of oral cancer.
  • Evaluation for Gum disease- Surveying the gums and bones for any evidence of periodontal disease.
  • Examination for Tooth Decay- Tooth Surfaces will be surveyed for decay by sanitary dental instruments.
  • Existing restoration examination- Checking current fillings, crowns, bridges, etc.
  • Bite Positioning examination- Determining whether your bite position is unhealthy and contributing to tooth wear, joint and muscle problems, and/or headaches.
Dental X-Rays
What are digital x-rays?
Digital x-rays capture and store digital images on a computer. These images can be instantly viewed, helping the dentist and hygienist detect risks before they become significant problems.
What are panoramic x-rays?
The panoramic x-ray gives a broad overview of the entire mouth. This x-ray supplies information about the teeth, upper and lower jawbone, sinuses and other hard and soft tissues of the head and neck.
Are dental x-rays necessary?
Dental x-rays are essential, preventative, diagnostic tools that provide valuable information. Our dentists use this information to safely and accurately detect hidden dental abnormalities, and recommend an accurate treatment plan. Without x-rays, problem areas may go undetected.
Dental X-rays can help detect
    • Abcesses or cysts
    • Bone loss
    • Cancerous and non-cancerous tumours
    • Decay between the teeth
    • Developmental abnormalities
    • Poor tooth and root positions
    • Problems inside a tooth or below the gum line
