From Frustration to Understanding: What We’ve Learned About Time in the Chair

We Get It — Dentistry Isn’t Easy
No one plans for a toothache. Pain, anxiety, and busy schedules can make even the smallest delays feel overwhelming. We understand that visiting the dentist can be stressful — and when you’re already in discomfort, waiting can feel even harder.
At Greenbank Family Dental, we believe that every moment in our care should reflect understanding, not just treatment. From the first hello at reception to the last rinse at the sink, our focus is on balancing compassion, communication, and clinical excellence.
We know that behind every appointment is a person juggling life, work, and often a bit of worry. That’s why we take the time to listen, explain, and make sure each visit — even the unexpected ones — feels supported, not rushed. We get it.
The Paradox of Time in the Chair
At Greenbank Family Dental, one of our values is giving patients the time they need in the chair. We don’t rush treatments, and we don’t cut conversations short. Our aim is for every patient to feel heard, supported, and cared for properly.
But here’s the paradox:
For the patient in the chair receiving that extra time and attention, it often feels like a five-star experience.
For the patient waiting, especially if they’re in pain or pressed for time, the same dedication can feel like a delay.
The very thing one person celebrates can be what another person finds frustrating.

What Feedback Reminds Us
Experiences like this remind us that dental care is not just about clinical treatment — it’s about communication, timing, and empathy. Even when our intentions are good, the experience may not always align with what a patient needs in that moment. That doesn’t make their feelings less valid, but it does challenge us to improve.
What We’re Doing Well
From what our patients tell us, we know they value:
The time we take to ensure treatments are comfortable and thorough.
The trust and relationships we’ve built with families across our community.
The gentle, supportive approach we use with patients who feel anxious about dental visits.
Where We Can Improve
At the same time, we’re always looking for ways to do better:
Communicating earlier and more clearly when delays may happen.
Continuing to refine scheduling to respect patients’ valuable time.
Expanding options like cancellation lists and emergency slots when possible.
The Bigger Picture
At Greenbank Family Dental, we stand by our values: ethical care, compassion, and taking the time to do things right.
We know that not every experience will feel perfect, especially in moments of pain or pressure. But we remain committed to learning from every situation, strengthening our communication, and ensuring that when you’re in our chair, you feel cared for — fully and without rush.
