It’s not every day you meet someone as genuinely inspiring as Kyle Haslam.
A long-time patient of Greenbank Family Dental, Kyle has been visiting us for over three years – and every visit reminds us what strength, perseverance, and passion truly look like.
At just one year old, Kyle lost both of his legs and several fingers due to a rare and life-threatening condition called pneumococcal septicaemia. Despite this, his love for sport and his determination to live fully never faded.
Now living locally in Jimboomba, Kyle recently shared with Dr Dan his exciting next chapter – heading to Finland to join an international training camp with Para Ice Hockey Queensland (PIHQ).
“I just love sport,” Kyle told us with a grin.

That love of sport started early. As a teenager, Kyle was given the opportunity to trial sprinting prosthetics and went on to win two national championships in athletics. But when his knees began to give out at age 16, he had to step away from track events.
That’s when he discovered para ice hockey – a sport that’s reignited his competitive fire. For the past three years, Kyle has been training and playing with PIHQ, bringing grit, determination, and a lot of heart to the rink.
In 2024, Kyle was officially named in PIHQ’s “Team of the Year”, recognised at their annual awards night for his contribution and commitment to the sport.
His next big dream? To earn a spot on the Australian Para Ice Hockey Team.
When asked what advice he’d give to someone who might be feeling limited or unsure of their abilities, Kyle had a powerful response:
“Nothing is impossible.”
A clear and powerful mantra from someone who’s proving it every single day. We’re incredibly proud to support Kyle as both a patient and a member of our local community – and we can’t wait to cheer him on as he chases his dream from Jimboomba to the international stage.

Kyle recently earned a spot in PIHQ’s Team of the Year 2024 and is now chasing his dream of joining the Australian Para Ice Hockey Team. We’re beyond proud to be part of his journey.
