At Greenbank Family Dental, we believe some of the most important dental care happens long before a tooth hurts.

Preventative care. Gum health. Education. Consistency.

And that’s exactly where Michelle Keepers-Heath thrives.

With more than 21 years of experience in the dental profession, Michelle brings a calm confidence and depth of clinical knowledge that patients immediately notice. As an Oral Health Therapist, her role extends far beyond what many people traditionally think of as “a clean.”

“It’s more than a polish,” Michelle explains.“It gets the support structure of the tooth healthy.”

That simple statement captures a philosophy that is becoming increasingly important in modern dentistry.

Why Gum Health Matters More Than Ever

Many patients still view dental cleans as cosmetic — something that simply removes stains or makes teeth feel smooth again.

But in reality, professional hygiene care is heavily focused on the gums and surrounding support structures that hold teeth in place for life.

Healthy teeth cannot exist without healthy gums.

Michelle’s clinical focus includes:

  • comprehensive hygiene therapy,

  • non-surgical periodontal treatment,

  • detailed gum health assessments,

  • airflow and ultrasonic instrumentation,

  • hand scaling techniques,

  • radiography,

  • in-chair whitening procedures,

  • and long-term preventative maintenance.

Her approach is methodical, thorough and tailored to each patient’s individual needs.

For patients with bleeding gums, tartar build-up, inflammation, gum recession or early signs of periodontal disease, these appointments can play a critical role in preserving long-term oral health.

The Reality Michelle Sees Every Day

After more than two decades in dentistry, Michelle admits one thing still surprises her — the amount of advanced gum disease and preventable oral health problems she continues to see in patients of all ages.

“It really reinforces how important it is to make your teeth and gums a priority,” Michelle says.

“Whether you’re young or older, keeping regular cleaning appointments and maintaining your oral health can make such a difference long term.”

For Michelle, preventative dentistry is not about judgement — it’s about helping patients protect what they still have before problems become more complex, painful or costly to manage.

Many gum and dental issues develop slowly and quietly over time, often without major pain in the early stages. By the time symptoms become obvious, significant damage may already have occurred.

That’s why Michelle places such a strong emphasis on:

  • regular professional cleans,

  • early intervention,

  • consistent maintenance,

  • and educating patients on how to care for their teeth and gums between visits.

Her goal is simple:to help patients keep their natural teeth healthier for longer and avoid preventable dental problems wherever possible.

Experience Built Across Queensland and New South Wales

Michelle graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Applied Health Science (Oral Health) and has spent more than two decades working across private, corporate, regional and defence health settings throughout Queensland and New South Wales.

That diverse experience has shaped her ability to confidently manage a wide range of clinical situations while maintaining a calm and reassuring chairside presence.

Whether working in fast-paced environments or supporting anxious patients who may not have visited a dentist in years, Michelle is known for creating an atmosphere where patients feel comfortable, informed and supported.

A Calm, Thorough and Patient-Focused Approach

Patients often comment on Michelle’s gentle communication style and her ability to clearly explain what she is doing and why it matters.

For many people, understanding why treatment is recommended changes the entire dental experience.

Rather than feeling rushed through an appointment, patients leave with a clearer understanding of:

  • their gum health,

  • areas needing attention,

  • home care improvements,

  • and how preventative care can help avoid more complex treatment later.

This education-first approach aligns closely with Greenbank Family Dental’s philosophy of empowering patients through knowledge and long-term care.

Supporting Greenbank Family Dental’s Growing Hygiene Services

As Greenbank Family Dental continues to expand, hygiene and preventative care remain a major focus for the future of the practice.

The reality is simple:strong preventative care often reduces the need for more invasive treatment later.

Michelle’s experience, structure and consistency help support this long-term vision — providing families with high-quality preventative and periodontal care in a calm and professional environment.

Whether patients are attending for a routine clean, ongoing periodontal maintenance, stain removal or whitening, Michelle brings a level of professionalism and clinical precision that reflects the evolving standard of modern dental hygiene care.

Because sometimes the most important dental treatment isn’t about fixing teeth.

It’s about protecting the foundation that keeps them healthy for life.
