An Emerging Leader: How Greenbank Family Dental is Championing ESG and Inspiring Change in Our Community

Updated: Oct 16

Editor’s Note (October 2025)

Since first publishing this article, Greenbank Family Dental has achieved a major sustainability milestone — verified carbon-positive operations ahead of schedule.

Through our Healthy Smiles, Healthy Forests initiative and partnership with Reforest, our community has already offset more than 30 tonnes of CO₂ through certified Australian reforestation.

This achievement, recognised as part of our award-winning sustainability commitment, marks a defining moment in our journey to make dental care part of a healthier planet.

At Greenbank Family Dental (GFD), we’ve always seen ourselves as more than just a dental practice. We’re part of a thriving local community, built on relationships, trust, and care. That’s why we’re proud to step into a new role—an emerging leader in sustainability and community-driven action through our Our Commitment Healthier Smiles, Healthier Forests initiative.

At Greenbank Family Dental, we’re more than a dental practice—we’re a part of our community. Healthier Smiles, Healthier Forests.

Small Business, Big Impact: Making ESG Local Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles are reshaping how businesses think and operate globally. But for us, it’s not just about global trends—it’s about how we can make a difference here in our community.

As a family-owned clinic, we understand the importance of connection. While global corporations tackle massive sustainability goals, we’re starting where we are, with small, meaningful steps that reflect our values and the needs of the Greenbank community.

Our partnership with Reforest, a Brisbane-based social enterprise, allows us to extend this ethos beyond our practice walls. Together, we’re supporting reforestation projects that create tangible benefits—not just for the planet, but for our neighbours, future generations, and the local ecosystems we cherish.

Healthier Smiles, Healthier Forests: A Local Initiative with Global ImpactOur reforestation campaign connects our patients’ visits to the health of our environment. Starting in January 2025, we’ll plant a tree for every referred patient or eligible service. These trees will contribute to two incredible projects:

Cooroy Mountain Wildlife Corridor (QLD): Located close to home, this project is restoring native vegetation, creating habitats for wildlife, and reconnecting fragmented landscapes to promote biodiversity.

Widgewah Sanctuary (VIC): This Victorian project combats soil erosion and land degradation, regenerating bushland that provides essential shelter and food for local wildlife.

Every tree planted is more than just a contribution to the environment—it’s a commitment to the values we share with our community: care, sustainability, and connection.

Why This Matters to GFD and GreenbankWe know we can’t tackle climate change alone. As a small, family-run practice, we’re a “little fish in a big pond,” but we believe every ripple counts. The Healthier Smiles, Healthier Forests initiative is our way of showing that meaningful change doesn’t require a massive budget or team—it requires heart, intention, and consistent effort.

This initiative allows us to: Care for the Planet: By supporting reforestation, we’re playing our part in addressing global challenges like biodiversity loss and climate change. Connect with the Community: Our patients, team, and partners are all part of this journey. Together, we’re creating a shared sense of purpose and pride in what we can achieve. Lead by Example: We hope to inspire other small businesses in Greenbank and beyond to explore how they, too, can contribute to a better world.

Transparency: Our ESG JourneyWe’re committed to being open about what we can achieve—and what we’re still working on:

  • The Scale of Impact: While our contributions are small in the global context, they are significant for our local environment and community. Every tree counts.

  • Partnership Reliance: We depend on the expertise of Reforest to ensure our efforts are impactful and sustainable.

  • Room to Grow: Reforestation is just the beginning. As we learn and grow, we’ll look for new ways to minimise waste, adopt sustainable materials, and deepen our ESG commitments.

A Community of Change-MakersThe heart of Greenbank Family Dental is our community, and this initiative is as much about you as it is about us. Every appointment you book, every smile we create, and every friend or family member you refer adds to this collective effort. Together, we’re proving that change happens when communities work as one.

Imagine this: A child walks through the Cooroy Mountain Wildlife Corridor, spotting birds and animals that have returned to their habitat because of trees we helped plant. Or a family near the Widgewah Sanctuary enjoys a revitalised landscape that protects their land from erosion. These stories, close to home, are what inspire us to keep going.

Join Us in Making a Difference. We’re excited to take this first step toward sustainability, but we know it’s only the beginning. Our patients and community have always been at the centre of what we do, and now you’re part of something bigger. Let’s create healthier smiles, greener forests, and a brighter future—together.
